AIRFARE to Iguassu Falls / Iguacu / Iguazu brazil

Airports and flights duration

Which are the alternative arrival airports near the Iguassu / Iguazu / Iguacu Falls?

There are two international airports close to Iguassu Falls: the Brazilian Foz do Iguacu Airport (IGU) and the Argentinian Iguazu International Airport.

They are located just some miles (about 5 miles) from the Iguassu Falls and from the neighbouring cities of Foz do Iguacu (Brazil) and Puerto Iguazu (Argentine).

Unless you are in Argentine or other south country of South America, the brazilian airport is more advantageous than the Argentinean. There are much more flights to Iguacu Airport Brazil, with the consequent lower air flight prices.

Do I have to endure intermediate stops and long waits in airports, before arriving to the Iguassu Falls?

There are many flights with those characteristics, which you should refuse: flights to Iguassu Falls, departing from North America, with a total duration of 24 hours, involving stops in cities as Asuncion, in Paraguay, etc. Be attentive to the “time between flights” and to the number of stops. The time for a non-stop air travel between New York and Iguassu Falls is around 12-13 hours (10 hours from Miami).

Is the bus a cheaper mean of transport to Iguassu Falls, if I am already in Brazil?

Yes. You can easily get a cheap and comfortable bus to Iguassu Falls from Sao Paulo, Rio de Janeiro, and other south coast Brazilian cities. The cost Sao Paulo–Iguassu and Rio de Janeiro–Iguassu Falls for executive buses is somehow around USD $35 and USD $50, respectively. From Sao Paulo there are some slightly more costly buses: the sleeper ones, with bed systems. The biggest downside is the travel time: about 16 hours from São Paulo, and 22 hours from Rio de Janeiro.

Note:

Multi-travel in Brazil

Can I mix my travel to the Iguassu Falls with other Brazilian destinations?

Yes. And you should: that’s the best way of diluting the costs of the flights and getting a cheaper travel.

Can I first get airfare to Sao Paulo or Rio de Janeiro, or other Brazilian destination, and from there to the Iguassu Falls?

That’s possible and, most of the times, the better strategy. You should definitively ponder the hypothesis of a multi-destination travel in Brazil, which may involve some stays in Rio de Janeiro or Sao Paulo, but also other hot brazilian destinations as Manaus in the Amazon, Bahia, and so on.

What is the best strategy for airfare to Iguassu Falls / Iguazu Falls / Iguacu Falls?

The best strategy is, first of all, to include your visit to Iguassu Falls in a wider travel to Brazil. Hotel prices in Brazil are cheap, but the flights no. So… why not a wide travel, including several top destinations? Instead of flying directly to the Iguassu Falls, get a ticket to Rio de Janeiro, for instance. Enjoy some days there, or at the region, before flying to Iguassu Falls. To see some examples of these packages, see: Multi-destination tour: Iguassu Falls tour

If you want your own trip to Iguassu Falls (instead of an organized tour by a travel agency) you should consider some strategic points you should consider, in the booking flight side, to get cheaper air tickets:
