The best time to visit the Iguassu Falls

The best time to visit the Iguassu Falls depends on your focus.

The Falls are spectacular all year round, but there are factors that you may want to consider before planning your visit: the water flow, the access to trails and activities, the outside air temperature, the rain, the influx of visitors...

The weather is typically pleasant year-round. Although the air temperatures do change, the most important factor - from a visitor standpoint - is the rain.

Visiting the Iguassu Falls during the Brazilian Summer months

December, January and February (summer months) are especially rainy and you may have cloudy skies, hot weather and high humidity: expect high temperatures around 90ºF/32ºC (and lows in the mid 70s F/20s C).

During these months the falls are at their peak (higher water levels) and if you don't mind getting wet (due to the rain) and want to get into the falls (by renting and driving a boat) it may be the right time for your visit; just take into account the cons: most Brazilians and Argentineans take vacation during January and February, and that's the period when the place is more crowded; and there is also a higher chance of the trails and activities being closed (due to the rain).

Visiting the Iguassu/Iguazu Falls during March-April and August-September

That's why it may be better to visit the site during drier months, especially the March-April and August-September periods.

These two periods have several advantages: temperature are more comfortable and the risk of rain is smaller; on the other hand, although the Falls are not at their peak, they remain impressive and rock faces peeking through them can make the falls more spectacular.

Besides, these two periods are less crowded than the summer months (if you go on weekdays, and non-holiday periods). Note: the Easter week is the most crowded period.

Going to Iguazu Falls during May-July and October-November

And what about the other months (May-July and October-November)? Are they a good time to visit the Iguassu Falls. Typically you will find blue skies and agreeable temperatures, and fewer visitors. But there is no rules. It may rain, or not - and if you are very unlucky, the falls may be in very low flow conditions, which may cause them to lose part of their splendor.
